The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced the alignment and station locations for the Downtown Line 2 extension (DTL2e). This 4-kilometre extension will connect the Downtown Line (DTL) from its current terminus at Bukit Panjang station to a new interchange station (NS6/DE2) on the North-South Line (NSL).
The first new station (DE1) after Bukit Panjang will be an underground station along Sungei Kadut Avenue. The DTL terminus will be an underground interchange station (DE2) connected to a new aboveground NSL station (NS6) between Yew Tee and Kranji stations. This will enhance rail connectivity in the north-western region, improving access to areas like Yew Tee Village and the future Sungei Kadut Eco-District.
DTL2e will reduce travel times for commuters in the north and north-western parts of Singapore, saving 20 minutes for trips from Yew Tee Village to Chinatown. It will also improve rail network resilience by offering alternative travel and transfer options.
Construction is expected to start in late 2025, with stations opening by 2035. An environmental study, involving nature groups, has been completed, and reports will be available for public feedback. Mitigation measures, including a wildlife corridor, will minimize environmental impact.
When completed, the DTL will have 39 stations, including Hume station (opening in 2025) and the DTL 3 extension (opening in 2026). This expansion brings Singapore closer to the Land Transport Master Plan 2040 goal of having 8 in 10 households within a 10-minute walk to a train station by the 2030s.
